Rain on dead earth
So will be the rising.
Signs · Rain on dead earth
“It is God who sends the winds, and they stir up clouds, and We drive them to a dead land and give life by it to the earth after its death. So will be the resurrection” (35:9, our rendering). Another verse says the still earth “quivers and swells” when rain falls (41:39).
The science. Desert seeds can lie dormant for years and germinate together after rare heavy rain. In Chile's Atacama, one of the driest places on Earth, the “flowering desert” bursts into colour after a wet winter.
Three faiths. This is the strongest three-faith link we found. In Jewish daily prayer, the line “He makes the wind blow and the rain fall” is said in the blessing on the revival of the dead (Mishnah Berakhot 5:2). Rabbi Abbahu said “the day of rain is greater than the resurrection of the dead” (Taanit 7a). And Jesus (peace be upon him): “unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains by itself alone. But if it dies, it bears much fruit” (John 12:24, WEB).
