One story, three traditions

For Schools · One story, three traditions

KS2–KS4 10-minute briefing

Key facts

  1. Abraham, Noah, Moses, Joseph, Jonah and Mary (peace be upon them) are remembered by all three faiths.
  2. Each tells the story in its own words: e.g. in the Qur'an Pharaoh's wife adopts Moses; in Exodus, Pharaoh's daughter.
  3. Historians compare versions; believers hold their own scripture as revelation. Avoid “copied”.

How do we know?

Activity: read the Jonah panels; list what is the same and what is different; ask what each tradition learns from it.

Take care

Never show a prophet in pupils' artwork for this lesson; draw the setting, the animals, the sea.
