One story, three traditions
For Schools · One story, three traditions
KS2–KS4 10-minute briefing
Key facts
- Abraham, Noah, Moses, Joseph, Jonah and Mary (peace be upon them) are remembered by all three faiths.
- Each tells the story in its own words: e.g. in the Qur'an Pharaoh's wife adopts Moses; in Exodus, Pharaoh's daughter.
- Historians compare versions; believers hold their own scripture as revelation. Avoid “copied”.
How do we know?
Activity: read the Jonah panels; list what is the same and what is different; ask what each tradition learns from it.
Take care
Never show a prophet in pupils' artwork for this lesson; draw the setting, the animals, the sea.
