One God in three faiths
For Schools · One God in three faiths
KS2–KS4 10-minute briefing
Key facts
- Jews, Christians and Muslims each say God is one: the Shema (Deuteronomy 6:4), the Christian creeds, and al-Ikhlas (Qur'an 112).
- Hebrew eḥad and Arabic aḥad are the same old Semitic word for one.
- Christians understand the one God as Trinity; Jews and Muslims understand oneness as admitting no such distinction. Say this plainly.
- Arabic-speaking Christians and Jews call God Allah.
