The ant's view
The ground shakes. An ant calls out: “Into your homes!” And a great king hears her.
Once, a long line of soldiers marched across a valley. Far below their feet lived a colony of ants.
One ant felt the ground tremble. “Into your homes,” she called to the others, “so that the army doesn't crush you without knowing it!”
The king at the head of the army was Solomon (peace be upon him), and he could understand the speech of creatures. When he heard the little ant, he smiled. He stopped his army. And he thanked God for noticing even the smallest voice. (Qur'an 27:18–19)
The Bible has an ant too: “Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise” (Proverbs 6:6, JPS 1917).
Wonder with us
Even an ant can be heard. Who hears you?
